Frankenstein goes thrifting

Thrifted blazer, necklace, and creepers, target shorts and tights, forever 21 top

I like to make a crazy clash of patterns every once in a while. I never thought I would wear striped tights, but I saw the video for Kiss with a Fist by Florence and the Machine, and suddenly it was imperative that I get some.

Luckily, Laura had a pair sitting in her drawers that she was willing to let me wear, and this glorious mishmash of an outfit came to be.

On me: Erin Fetherston for target shirt, thrifted skirt, target socks (borrowed from Laura), forever 21 shoes, ragstock bowtie (worn on head).

On Laura: Thrifted dress, target tights, found shoes and bandana.

Laura and I went out to a base ball field by our house to take some pictures with a back-to-school kind of feel. I wore this outfit with a schoolgirl-meets-lolita-meets-goth vibe. It's not how I usually dress, but it  was fun to play with. I definitely need more knee socks. Laura's dress was an amazing thrift find. It has little strawberries all over it! The figure skater shape is also really great. We ended up matching pretty well!

Turn me to gold in the sunlight

DIY thrifted vest, homemade skirt, charlotte russe shirt with DIY sleeves, target tights, Doc Martens, pendant from a random kiosk at the State Fair

It's a shame that most of my favorite clothes are really impractical, especially for cold weather. It's a little hard to tell from these pictures, but this skirt is pretty sheer. I guess I better get some mileage out of it before winter comes and I have to wear things that actually keep me warm.

ALSO! I keep forgetting to tell you guys, but I have a tumblr! You can follow me if you wish, or leave your links in the comments so I can see what you lovely people are tumbling.

Ahoy, mateys!

Modcloth jacket, Urban Outfitters top, tthrifted pants, forever 21 shoes, my mom's old belt

I like this look a lot. It makes me feel super classy and kind of avant-garde at the same time. And the white in my topknot makes me happy.

In other news, yesterday was Talk Like A Pirate Day! My friend Ben interpreted that to mean "Dress Like A Pirate Day" as well, and put together quite the ensemble. The pictures are pretty dark, but you get the idea. The mustache is my favorite part.

Fall has fallen

I thought that today, in honor of the weather suddenly taking a turn for the autumnal, I would make a long rambley post about some of my favorite things about fall.

#1: Cozy sweaters and #2: Maxi skirts. Especially when worn together.

Thrifted sweater with diy elbow patches, vintage dress worn as skirt (this is actually my prom dress from last spring! It dresses down quite nicely), antique necklace, homemade bag, forever 21 shoes

They are an especially good ensemble if you feel like twirling. Also, note #3: Elbow Patches. They aren't specific to fall, but I feel like fall is the season in which they can best be appreciated. Don't ask me why, but you know it's true.

The best thing about maxi skirts is that they are ideal for concealing #4: Long Underwear.

I'm going to be wearing these bad boys all winter. If you think long underwear is stupid, then you obviously don't live in Minnesota. They are possibly the best cold-weather invention ever.

#5: Candy Corn

As soon as the weather drops below 60 degrees, I run out to the nearest Walgreens and pick up some candy corn. It meets both requirements for excellent candy: cute and delicious. Fall it the best time to eat it; it just doesn't taste right any other time of the year. The pumpkins are the best.

#6: Dark Nail Polish

When the weather gets cold, it just feels right to rock some deep red nails. This shade is CoverGirl Boundless Color in Crushed Berries. In real life, the color looks darker, more shimmery, and generally more badass. Also note the disgusting yet awesome blister I got from paddling a canoe for three days. I'm kind of proud of it.

That's all I have pictures for, but I'm also excited for caramel apples, the crisp, clean air, sitting by the fireplace, and watching the leaves change color.

On a new subject, I wore this outfit to coffee with a dear friend, and on my way there I saw a bunch of beautiful gardens that I had never seen before in my neighborhood. Luckily, I had my trusty camera with me and I was able to get a few photos. I think it's kind of nature's last hurrah flower-wise before everything dies for the winter.

I loved seeing so many daisies. They are definitely my favorite flower. I'm sorry I post sooooo many flowers and floral prints on this blog, but I love them so much! All I want to wear are florals upon florals.

Desperate Housewife

Thrifted top and headscarf, forever 21 pants, ancient kohl's flats

Jesus, I always look so grumpy in my blog pictures. I'm a really happy person, I promise! I just have a mild case of chronic bitchface.

Anyway, some of you clever readers may notice that this look bears a slight resemblance to Beyonce's in my last post. I was going for a "50's housewife but not" look, if that makes any sense.

My god, I really do look terrifying in that third picture.

Why don't you love me?

I love love love Beyonce's video for her song Why Don't You Love Me? It has exactly the sort of pinup aesthetic I'm trying to cultivate in my wardrobe.

I'm a Beyonce fan. She also looks great in Gaga's Telephone video, even if the video itself makes very little sense.

P.S. I'm off canoeing with my school right now, so this post and the next are scheduled. I'll be back with real time outfit posts soon! For now, I'm stuck with two outfits for four days. Neither of them are particularly attractive. Oh well.
